Over 90 per cent of the province’s school buses have passed mandatory annual inspections.
Service NL’s spring 2019 school bus inspections show 92.6 per cent of buses passed the annual inspections by the departments highway enforcement officers. Last year, 92.5 per cent received a pass.
An investigation was launched a few years ago after some school buses were pulled from service after government inspections showed a number of deficiencies. That led to charges against some operators and garages.
Service NL says all buses are inspected several times a year, twice at an Official Inspections Station, in July and December.
The Motor Registration Division does both announced and unannounced inspections, especially in cases where a complaint has been received.
