You can expect an increased police presence in the CBS area over the summer, cracking down on improper off-road vehicle use, however, don’t always expect to see them.
An ATV Safety Blitz held Tuesday morning in Seal Cove was an opportunity for various groups like the RNC, Municipal Enforcement, firefighters and more to come together and discuss safe ATV use in communities.
Inspector Alex Brennan, Commander for the CBS, RNC Detachment says education, awareness and enforcement are the three main ways to crack down on safety. He says they will take a number of measures this summer like rotating ATV patrols around the northeast Avalon.
Brennan says he has a Sargent on street patrol who is working on a plan to use unmarked cars to watch people going in and out of gas stations; follow vehicles on ATV’s or dirt bikes to see where they go before taking action; and lastly, traffic services coming up with a plan.
Inspector Brennan has a pretty clear message for ATV users.
He says people wont see cops in marked police clothes as they do not want to engage in a pursuit where someone will run off and do something reckless to get away.
Instead, they will be like ghosts, mixing in with the environment and following people to their destinations before taking appropriate actions.
