Officials say the Trans-Labrador Highway may reopen to traffic by late Sunday, depending on water levels and the progress of work.
A segment of the road washed out near Happy Valley-Goose Bay, severing the only road link between the central and western regions of Labrador.
Helicopter service is underway.

Heavy rains washed out the road near Happy Valley-Goose Bay stranding drivers on either side.
But it was much worse for one pair of travellers.
A couple from Gambo were driving on the road when it suddenly crumbled beneath them. Rhoda and Gary Lane were on their way to Labrador West to attend their daughter’s wedding.
Both suffered injuries and Gary remains in hospital in Happy Valley-Goose Bay recovering. Rhoda says despite their injuries, they managed to get out, and walked around for five and a half hours trying to stay warm, before a driver on the other side noticed their flashlights.
She says they both smoke but neither one of them had a lighter on them to start a fire. She says despair set in when the driver on the other side left.
Little did they know that help was finally on the way.
