A St. John’s councilor wants more youth engagement in the capital city.
At yesterday’s Committee of the Whole meeting at City Hall, Maggie Burton proposed the establishment of a youth lead action group to look at why more young people are not actively engaged in more civic matters, and how to get them involved.
Burton told VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly, what benefits youth, will also benefit seniors. She wants people to come together to discuss the issues that are important to them.
She says for example, during last year’s citizen satisfaction survey, youth were the least satisfied with public transportation. During the ongoing public transit review, Burton says the city takes the concerns of young people seriously and wants to hear from them.
