The co-counsel for the Muskrat Falls Inquiry says government failed in its duty to mitigate methylmercury contamination Barry Learmonth was questioning Natural Resources Minister Siobhan Coady yesterday after it was revealed that time has run out on recommendations from the Independent Expert Advisory Committee to do more soil removal.
Minister Coady differed, saying that government has been responsive to concerns about methylmercury.
The hydro project is now too far along to follow through on the recommendations of the committee. Learmonth says it appears that the impassioned pleas of people from Labrador did not get much attention.
He saw the delayed response to the recommendations for more capping as a failure.
Minister Coady said wetland capping would not result in a significant difference. She said capping would attribute to only one to two per cent of the mitigation.
