Our view of the ocean is about to get a whole lot clearer.
Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, Navdeep Bains announced that the Ocean Supercluster’s first project will be lead by Kraken Robotics at their headquarters today.
The project, titled Ocean Vision, will focus on creating a modern ocean economy using AI technology to create high resolution seafloor mapping. The tech will be used in industries like oil and gas, fisheries, aquaculture, science and defense.
The Canadian government will fund the project with $5.9-million.
President and CEO of Kraken, Karl Kenny says that this technology is going to give us a whole new look at the ocean floor.
He says it’s like comparing an old black and white TV from the 70s to the new high definitions televisions on our walls today. It’s a big resolution difference. He says we are seeing things that humans have never seen before.
