A local comedian, actor and writer is reflecting a life in the arts following the announcement that he will be receiving the Order of Canada for his work in celebrating our culture and traditions.
Andy Jones was born in St. John’s and has been working in the arts for almost five decades, including as a member of the CODCO comedy group.
He says says that he loved performing from a young age, saying that he has been doing it “ever since he was born.” As well, he says he was always intrigued by the province’s unique language, history, and culture.
Jones reflects on the abundance of inspiration there is in the province. He says Newfoundland and Labrador is very “fertile” place for ideas, and that he used that all of his life in his work.
Jones says it is important to invest in the arts.
He calls the arts one of Newfoundland’s greatest success stories, and points to our talent in areas such as writing and comedy as examples.
