A local chef is disappointed the Auditor General has found the province’s English School Board is not adequately managing healthy eating.
That was the findings in one of three audits released yesterday by Julia Mullaley. The other two were on wellness priorities and student transportation.
Chef Todd Perrin told VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly the news is unfortunate to hear. Perrin says the overall quality of food in the province – particularly what our kids are eating – is a huge issue, and he says it impacts everyone.
Perrin says a healthy, balanced diet helps you be a contributing member of society, and helps reduce your impact on health care spending in the province.
He says school is the perfect place for Government to have control over that.
Nutritionist Tara Antle also weighed in on the conversation. She says there have been some improvements, with more options available on the menu – but Antle says it varies from school to school.
