Government is changing the eligibility for daycare subsidies so that more families will qualify.
Effective July 1st, the threshold for a full subsidy will be $35,000 net family income, up from the current $32,000.
Minister of Early Childhood Development Brian Warr says a family eligible for the full subsidy who uses a childcare centre participating in the Operating Grant Program will receive free child care.
With the new threshold, a single-parent family with a net income of $40,000 needing care for two infants would be eligible for a subsidy of about $1,725 a month. A two-parent family with net income of $65,000 needing care for two preschool-aged children and one infant would qualify for about $1,055 a month.
Minister Brian Warr says about 1,000 more affordable child care spaces have become available since last year because of the program.
