For the 17th year, the community of Riverhead, St. Mary’s Bay will mark Memorial Day/Canada Day by lacing up in remembrance of those who bravely fought for our freedoms during the Battle of Beaumont Hamel.
The Run For Freedom is a competitive 8 km race with participants from across the province and beyond. In addition, a 5 km walk for all ages and abilities aims to get the whole community involved.
Mayor Shelia Lee says this is about remembering the young Newfoundlanders who lost their lives for us, and that there’s no better time to do that than on Monday’s holiday.
