A local bird biologist admits, bird feeders are a tricky topic.
When temperatures rise, bird lovers are encouraged to take down their feeders to prevent the spread of frounce, a parasitic illness that is deadly for song birds.
But should feeders go up at all?
Bill Montevecchi says he puts up bird feeders in the winter months because of the pleasure watching the birds brings, but acknowledges that doing so interferes with the natural balance.
He says a bird feeder lures birds to an area when they should be foraging on their own.
