The owners of Mother Hens Daycare on Ropewalk Lane are working to move into a temporary location while their permanent home is restored following a fire early yesterday morning.
The bulk of the damage was in the daycare, but neighbouring businesses were also impacted by the blaze.
It left 36 children under the age of 5 without a daycare when they woke yesterday morning, but within hours Co-Owner Leeann Parsons says they were looking at temporary locations to run the business.
Parsons says she understands these are working families who need the services of a daycare, and says they’re doing everything they can to find a temporary location.
Province Trying to Make Transition Easy as Possible
The provincial government is doing what it can to ease the process as Mother Hen’s daycare looks to set up a new location following a fire that devastated the Ropewalk Lane business early Wednesday morning.
Minister of Early Childhood Development, Brian Warr says it’s up to the business to find a new location, but government will do what it can to make the transition as smooth as possible. He says they know it’s a blow to the business and to the families involved.
He says they’ll issue a temporary licence to operate while Service NL will be responsible for making sure the necessary regulations are met.
