The Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Newfoundland and Labrador says she’s never seen anything like it in all her years with the agency.
Kelly Leach put the call out for male mentors through VOCM News earlier this week, and within 24 hours, they received 50 applications.
VOCM News reported on Wednesday that the wait list for some boys to be matched with a mentor was up to two years due to a lack of male volunteers.
Leach says the response has been remarkable. She says that she has never seen anything like it in all of her years with the agency. She says this is going to put a lot of smiles on the boys’ faces.
Leach says the influx of people wanting to volunteer is going to have a very positive impact.
She says the waiting time is definitely going to be reduced and that hopefully they can find a match for everyone on their list.
