It’s been an emotional roller coaster for a woman biking across the island on the Newfoundland T’Railway.
Jenn Wicks is attempting to ride from the Railway Coastal Museum in St. John’s to Port Aux Basques, and back again in support of Fighting Blindness Canada.
That’s nearly 1,800 kilometres over the bumpy, rocky terrain of the old railbed—the Newfoundland T’Railway—and over 10,000 meters of climbing.
Wicks is participating in Cycle for Sight, and says she was inspired by other riders—some who are partially-sighted—who have decided to take action and not sit idly around waiting for something to happen.
She took a tumble into a bog while making her way into Gambo and a local family helped her out.
Wicks says they took her in, fed her, and let her have a shower. She says they were very kind and generous.
You can follow Wicks’ journey on both her Facebook and Twitter accounts.
