A Newfoundlander will be among those involved in official celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the first lunar landing.
American astronaut Neil Armstrong was the first human to set foot on the surface of the moon on July 20th, 1969.
Celebrations marking the historic occasion are planned throughout the year.

Newfoundlander Bethany Downer has worked with the European Space Program, is and is training for her own journey into space.
She calls the lunar landing a big milestone. She says none of the kids or young women she speaks to about science and space were around when the lunar landing occurred, but it’s important that it’s recognized.
