An online attack has taken out a vital hub of services and community for newcomers to the province.
Hackers took control of the Refugee and Immigrant Advisory Council website this week, using it to redirect traffic to malware sites around the internet.
No private information or emails were accessed, but the organization has since shut down the site, which sees a large amount of traffic.
Jose Rivera says they’re trying to get it back online, but don’t really have the people or resources to fight such an attack. He says it’s been an endless war, and it’s really just him and a couple of volunteers, so they’re looking for support.
Newcomers new use of the site to access vital services and community. In the meantime, some information is still available online through their facebook page.
