Monday and Tuesday of next week is Amazon Prime Day, a mid-summer sale during which items sold online are marked down considerably. The sale has been compared to a summer online Black Friday event.
But how do local retailers compete?
Terry Hussey is the Chief Executive Officer of Vigilant Management. He says there are a number of ways for local retailers to ensure that important disposable income stays here at home.
Hussey says stores may not be able to compete with the price, but they can compete with the experience.
The online shopping experience can be a bit sterile, and clever retailers will sell people on the experience of seeing and touching the item they want and walking away with it today instead of waiting three days.
Hussey says Amazon also has a poor reputation when it comes to the way they threat their employees.
People who care about how their money is spent may prefer to buy local.
