Former Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Roger Grimes is officially taking on a new role in the province’s oil and gas industry.
Yesterday, Minister Siobhan Coady and Federal Minister Amarjeet Sohi announced that Grimes will take over as the chair of the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (C-NLOPB) for a six-year term.
The Department of Natural Resources says the appointment was made through the Independent Appointments Commission Act, under the merit-based process.
This isn’t his first stint on the board, having first been appointed to a role on it in April 2018. Then, in February, Grimes was chosen to fill the role of acting chair.
Grimes acted as Premier from 2001 until 2003, before retiring from politics two years later.
