The province and the nearby French islands of St. Pierre and Miquelon are celebrating Bastille Day today.
Bastille Day is the national celebration of France and commemorates the storming of the Bastille on July 14th, 1789, a major turning point in the French Revolution.
It is one of the most important holidays of the year in France and is marked in St. Pierre and Miquelon with celebrations and family events.
St. Pierre and Miquelon, known as a little piece of France in North America, are just off the tip of the Burin Peninsula. They are Departments of France and are part of the European Union.
