Two friends from the United States are setting sail for a three-month journey along the South Coast to film a documentary series on Newfoundland resilience.
Kyla McIlwee and Chris Ferguson titled their project “Resilience Is.” They will travel to a number of outport communities to find out what makes these places—and the people who live there—so resilient.
Ferguson says that Newfoundland hasn’t always been on their radar, but once they heard stories about Newfoundland outports, they knew they had to come.
He says what they’ve both been looking to tell stories that aren’t necessarily golden stories of success.
McIlwee and Ferguson will be sleeping in a small boat until they finish their voyage in September. They hope to set sail on July 17.
