While the weather may have been grey and foggy, downtown St. John’s was filled with colour yesterday, for what’s being called the province’s largest-ever Pride celebration.
Thousands of people waving rainbow flags, banners, and other symbols of acceptance and inclusion marched through city streets, winding their way from St. John’s City Hall to Bannerman Park.
The day began with the raising of the Pride flag at City Hall, which led to the parade, followed by a celebration at Bannerman Park.
While many had their own reasons for attending, many who spoke with VOCM News said they felt it important to express support for family, friends, and the community at large.
St. John’s Pride estimates thousands of people joined in this year. In a post to its Facebook page, St. John’s Pride says support grows each year, filling the city with more love and acceptance.
