Workers at the Carbonear General Hospital and the Private Josiah Squibb Memorial Pavilion demonstrated over the lunch hour today to raise concerns over what they say is the casualization of their jobs.
NAPE President Jerry Earl says an overreliance on part-time and casual work at the hospital is causing stress and strain on workers, especially Personal Care Attendants.
He says workers are expected to do part-time work that affects their work-life balance. He says health care is full-time care.
Workers are bringing attention to what they say is the casualization of their work. The union contends that’s a tactic that is being used by the employer to avoid assigning workers into permanent, full-time positions.
