Municipal workers in Placentia are out on the picket lines after protracted contract negotiations with the town broke down with no resolution in sight.
The CUPE members pulled services a few days before a meeting, which was to have taken place today.
Local president Gerry Quilty says they would have been happy to meet before their chosen strike date, which was set for Tuesday, but the town indicated it was not available.
Workers walked off the job after more than 14 months of negotiations with little to no progress according to the union.
Mayor Bernard Power says they’re “extremely disappointed” that the union has decided to take such “drastic action.”
Among the outstanding issues still on the table are scheduling and wages.
The workers got a visit on the picket line yesterday from CUPE President Sherry Hillier.
