There have been a lot of questions about the fence that is no more on Signal Hill, including what it cost Canadians.
One local timber supplier estimates it could have cost taxpayers between thirty and sixty thousand dollars.
Brad Hickey, store manager of Hickey’s Timber Mart in St. John’s has bid on similar federal tenders but says he didn’t see a tender for this project come across his desk.
According to Hickey, there are only two or three local companies that could have provided the materials for this type of project, and it would have been a hefty price tag due to the materials used and the fact that it was a federal government project.
Hickey estimates that a fence like the one on Signal Hill would cost between two-hundred-dollars per foot. But, he says the price could also be upwards of four-hundred-dollars per foot due to it being a federal government project and if there were engineers and consultants involved.
The fence is approximately one-hundred-and-fifty feet long.
