The Anglican Bishop of Eastern Newfoundland says he and the diocese look forward to the opportunity to vote independently on the matter of marriage equality at their local diocesan Synod in September.
The Right Reverend Dr. Geoff Peddle, a supporter of marriage equality, says he joins with his brothers and sisters in faith in mourning what he calls the recent “misstep” in their “shared journey.”
Peddle was responding to the results of last week’s vote on Marriage Equality at the General Synod of the Anglican Church of Canada in Vancouver.
The vote did not pass, but the question of marriage equality can be voted on at the provincial level.
The Anglican Diocese of Eastern Newfoundland and Labrador will hold their own vote on the matter at their Synod in St. John’s in September.
