Royal Canada Navy divers are hoping to have all the shells left on board the wrecks of four iron/ore carriers sunk by a German U-Boat in WWII removed by the end of next week.
The four vessels were fitted out with guns to defend themselves against enemy attack. The current mission is to clear the wrecks of the shells that are still lying on the bottom.
Lieutenant Zach Johnson says dive operations were delayed today because of high winds but if the weather co-operates, they hope to have the mission completed by the 25th.
One of the wrecks is cleared, and they’re currently working on the Rose Castle.
The wrecks are very popular with divers from all over the world.
