Taxi drivers in metro again took their fight with the insurance industry to Confederation Building this morning. With another rate increase coming next week, they wanted to make government aware of the problems they face.
All taxi drivers are lumped in with high-risk drivers such as those who have been picked up for impaired.
The provincial government introduced some changes to the insurance industry in the spring, but advocate Doug McCarthy says the rates being charged by Facility Association, the industry’s high-risk arm, are outrageous.
McCarthy told VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly that he should be rated based on his own record, not the records of other drivers.
He says years ago, a male driver under 25 used to pay more but that has been changed. McCarthy wants to be insured based on his own driving habits.
