The warm weather means more people out walking and that could increase the risk of pedestrian-vehicle accidents.
RNC Sgt. Karen Didham says summer and early fall are the two times that these types of incidents increase. She says pedestrians are responsible for their safety when they are crossing roadways.
She says when a pedestrian approaches a crosswalk, they are required to stop, look both ways and to step on the crosswalk only when it is safe to do so.
Vehicles are required to yield once a pedestrian enters a crosswalk.
But it is a different situation if a pedestrian is crossing the road where there is no crosswalk, says Didham.
She says if you are trying to cross the road where there is no crosswalk, than the vehicle has the right of way and the pedestrian has to stop to allow the vehicle pass them.
