A contagious virus that spreads through dogs and puppies has been confirmed in the metro region.
That’s according to Sunrise Animal Hospital, which recently took to Facebook to share information with clients after three cases of Parvovirus were confirmed in Mount Pearl.
Also known as ‘Parvo,’ the infection is highly contagious, and in some cases can be fatal. The virus attacks white blood cells, and the intestinal system of puppies and dogs.
The animal hospital says the disease is spread through dog-to-dog contact, or contact with contaminated feces and environments.
Symptoms include lethargy, vomiting, fever, loss of appetite and bloody diarrhea.
Sunrise Animal Hospital says anyone with a dog displaying potential symptoms should seek medical attention immediately.
