There were no injuries, but 15 seniors have been displaced from their home after fire struck a neighbouring building on LeMarchant Road in St. John’s early this morning.
The Canadian Red Cross has helped affected residents find alternate arrangements while they remain on the scene for support.
St. John’s Regional Fire Department Platoon Chief Dean Foley says the call came in around 1:20 this morning.
The fire has extensively damaged a three-storey building which was under renovation.
Foley says there was some exterior damage caused to Katherine House, a neighbouring seniors residence, forcing its evacuation.
It’s hoped that residents will be able to return home once the smoke has cleared.
