Changes are coming to auto insurance this week.
As of August 1, the six per cent commission rate paid to brokers through the Facility Association will be cut in half to three per cent. That means a reduction for taxi and limousine operators.
The Facility Association has also been directed to establish an all-comers risk sharing pool for members in this province. That will allow drivers insured through the Facility Association, but not considered to be the highest risk, to be insured through the regular market.
Uninsured drivers will no longer have access to compensation under the Uninsured Automobile Fund after August 1.
The changes are part of government efforts to stabilize insurance rates following calls from the taxi industry and the public.
