The owner of Katherine House on LeMarchant Road says they hope to get the all-clear and have residents back home by the end of the day.
Linda Ebsary says they had to scramble early yesterday morning when the three-storey building next door caught fire.
Luckily, the Gov’nor Inn on Elizabeth Avenue stepped in, offering up rooms to the seniors displaced by the fire. She says were it not for the Gov’nor, they might have had to accommodate residents in an auditorium.
Ebsary says were it not for the hard work of firefighters and winds that were in their favour, Katherine House may have been destroyed.
Damage was limited to the exterior of the building. The neighbouring property was heavily damaged.
