Over $1-million from the provincial government is going towards three projects approved by the Newfoundland and Labrador Workforce Innovation Centre.
The three projects are through Choices for Youth, the St. John’s Board of Trade and Academy Canada.
Just under $617,000 is going to Choices for Youth for applied research on supportive training and social enterprise employment first practices for the future of the province; this will assess and analyze options for education, training and work.
Around $230,000 is going to the SJ Board of Trade to research barriers and opportunities to workforce participation for older workers in the province. It will explore barriers older workers face in the labour market.
Finally just over $227,000 is for Academy Canada for enhancing employability through soft skills development. This will focus on post-secondary graduates, underrepresented groups and the public across the province.
President and CEO of CNA, Bruce Hollett says these initiatives will contribute to the projected targets on jobs and workforce in the province in the coming years.
