It’s official: three new inductees are now members of the Royal St. John’s Regatta Hall of Fame.
City Hall was full of smiles, laughter and old memories this afternoon as the 1985 Outer Cove Regatta Ford Intermediate Crew, Francis (Frank) Dinn and Graham Roche were officially inducted into the Hall of Fame.
The Outer Cove Crew set a new course record in the intermediate race in 1985 with a time of 9:30:65—a record that held up for 16 years. An impressive feat considering four of the crew were young enough to row in the Juvenile Category.
Team members are Cox: Mike Power, Stroke: Pat Hyde, Dave Kelly, Frank Power, Darin Hyde, Greg Morris, Paddy Dyer, Bill Power (Coach, standing).
Frank Dinn was inducted as a builder. He served 40 years on the Regatta Committee, holding a number of positions. He was also the man who put the “Royal” designation ahead of the St. John’s Regatta in 1993. He did it in just three months.
Graham Roche goes in as a Coxswain.
Roche was involved with the Regatta for over 20 years, first as a rower in 1992, then as coxswain in 1998 – his true passion. His 2015 Male Squirt Crew set the record of 2:29:76. @VOCMNEWS pic.twitter.com/QrJ5I7kkr5
