There has been a major increase in sexually transmitted infections in the province.
Otherwise easily prevented infections such as chlamydia and gonorrhea have increased locally—in some cases, by more than a hundred per cent.
Executive Director of Planned Parenthood Nikki Baldwin told VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly that it’s a combination of lack of education for all ages on preventable STIs and condoms becoming less popular than they once were.

Baldwin says they’re still handing out 15,000 free condoms a year, but with advances in birth control and no push in education, many people feel they no longer need them.
