Sobeys is the latest grocery chain to announce plans to abandon the plastic bag.

The company says it will begin phasing out plastic in favour of paper bags at all of its stores starting in January.

They’re also planning to add re-usable mesh bags to their produce aisles starting this month.

In Canada, Sobeys estimates the swap will remove 225-million plastic grocery bags from circulation annually.
