One person is dead and another seriously injured following a head-on collision on the Trans-Canada Highway near Gander this afternoon.
First responders were called to the highway just east of Benton at around 2 p.m., after a dump truck and a pickup collided.

RCMP confirm the driver of the pickup was killed in the crash, while their passenger sustained serious injuries. The status of the other driver is currently unknown.
Traffic was halted in both directions for several hours as emergency crews attended the scene.
Some drivers re-routed through the Bonavista North Loop Road.
