Many residents in downtown St. John’s were unhappy after loud music came blaring from what was originally thought to be DJ’s or bands on the George Street stage, but that wasn’t the case.
Louise Moyes is one of those residents. She says she was woken up around 1:30 Saturday morning to very loud music. She thought it was a party nearby before realizing it was coming from George Street.
She says the music was so loud, she could hear the DJ and the lyrics to the song. The same thing happened Saturday night, something Moyes says they have never experienced before.
However, no music is permitted to come from the stage after midnight according to the George Street Association’s Jonathan Galgay.
The loud music wasn’t coming from the stage itself, but from rooftop bars on George Street, something Galgay says is out of the Association’s hands as bars are allowed to operate until 3:00 a.m. under the law.
VOCM News has reached out to the City of St. John’s for comment on regulations surrounding rooftop bars and noise restrictions.
