Over 150 firefighters from across Canada and the United States have converged on St. John’s for the Biennial Canadian Policy Conference of the International Association of Fire Fighters at the Delta Hotel.
The conference happens every two years in Canada, and brings together firefighters to discuss policy, initiatives, issues that impact the industry, and ways to improve.

David Burry of St. John’s is district VP representing Atlantic Canada and Quebec. He says fire services are unique depending on where they’re located, but says there is also much in common.
One of the big topics on the agenda during the conference this week is thew safety of firefighters and stress injuries. Burry says they will look at PTSD, how it’s recognized in the profession, and how it’s treated.
Meetings run until Wednesday.
