A woman from Flatrock is home with her new baby girl – and has quite a story to tell…
That’s because Jennifer Codner delivered the baby herself in a moving vehicle on the way to hospital.
Jennifer Codner had a prenatal checkup at 2:00 p.m. last Thursday. She went home afterwards, and feeling a little uncomfortable, decided to go to bed at about 5:00 p.m..
At midnight, Codner woke up and knew it was time to go to the hospital.
Codner and her partner, Perry Hogan, dropped their two children off to the babysitter and headed for the hospital. They were on the Prince Phillip Parkway, nearing Confederation Building, when Codner’s water broke. Hogan was still driving, and asked if he should stop, but Codner insisted he continue onto the hospital.
She says it happened so fast that she didn’t have time to think. Within about a minute of her water breaking, Codner delivered in the moving vehicle, catching the baby herself.
By the time the new parents arrived at the Health Sciences Centre, Codner was holding her new baby girl in her arms.
The family is now home, and mother and baby are doing well. The proud parents named their new bundle Julia Marie, weighing in at 7 pounds 4 ounces.
