The new winners circle at Quidi Vidi Lake features years and years of history engraved in stone, something the Regatta Committee President says they felt was necessary.
The circle was officially unveiled on Tuesday morning, ahead of today’s 201st Regatta.

The Regatta started in 1818, and breaks in the circle represent the missing years, like the first World War, and the Great Fire of 1892.
The circle also honours the winners of championship races of the past two centuries.
Course records are engraved around the circle and the Hall of Fame wall is around the back. A nice tribute to the rowers. @VOCMNEWS pic.twitter.com/BK2jxLifeO

Regatta Committee President, Chris Neary says it was important to remember history. He says the Regatta is apart of the City’s and the province’s history. Neary believes it was important to include these things to recognize significant milestones and significant reasons for not having regatta’s over the years.
That’s a wrap on phase one of developments at Quidi Vidi Lake, and Neary says phase two will deal with the recreation area of the lake, and the enjoyment of the trail around the lake will be tackled in phase three.
