There will soon be multiple payment options for people looking to park in the capital city’s downtown.
Last year, the city of St. John’s replaced 136 metered spaces along Harbour Drive with a Pay by Phone only area, whereby users could pay via an app or by dialing a toll free number.
The city says that parking usage for the area is doing well, coming close to the average for use in the metered areas before vandalism became an issue.
However, while usage is doing well, the city says they have heard residents’ concerns about the system, and that they will be installing new meter hardware along harbour drive in addition to having the Pay by Phone Option.
Councilor Debbie Hanlon says this will be the standard for all of the downtown moving forward.
Hanlon says they will be looking at a mix of options, such as debit and m-cards, in addition to the app, for the entire downtown area.
