A high angle rescue took place yesterday morning to save a stranded dog who had broken free from his leash in Outer Cove.
St. John’s Regional Fire Department were called to a section of the East Coast Trail in the community around 9:30 yesterday morning after a hiker noticed the dog.
Captain Pat Power with the St. John’s Regional Fire Department says the dog had somehow managed to get stuck about 260 feet down the grassy cliff.
A team had to be deployed to rescue the dog, and Power says the Animal was all too happy to see his rescuers. He says the dog jumped right into their arms.
Power says the dog may have got stuck while wandering the trails.
Where the dog was can be accessed by trail, but the terrain going back up can look really daunting, which Power says may have spooked the dog and caused him to stay put.
The dog was uninjured, and was reunited with his owner, who had arrived on the scene about an hour after the fire department.
