A PC MHA is once again slamming government for wasting opportunities to review the safety of the North Spur at Muskrat Falls before flooding.
Lela Evans says the Ball Liberals squandered four years without taking the advice of scientists and engineers to conduct an independent expert review of the integrity of the North Spur before flooding the reservoir.
She says Hydro engineer, Jim Gordon wrote to Minister Siobhan Coady to remind her of the findings of scientists whose geotechnical analysis identified a layer of clay that could liquify and suddenly collapse – giving no warning to residents living down stream.
Evans says a fraction of the $30-million the Premier earmarked but never spent on wetland capping could’ve been used to conduct the independent review of the North Spur’s stability.
She says with flooding now starting, it’s too late for this review.
