When “Up the Pond” starts playing, whether it’s Shanneyganock on the radio or the CLB band at Quidi Vidi Lake, it’s hard to just sit still.
That’s what happened to a family in Mount Pearl. Tammy Vardy says the family had gathered to celebrate their daughter’s tenth birthday. When the classic race song “Banks of Newfoundland” came on, they immediately set up an impromptu boat race using dining room chairs.
Vardy says they never miss the Regatta, but none of them have ever attempted rowing.
