A local band is on their way home to the island after being stranded in Nain for 10 days due to an unrelenting period of heavy fog.
In the middle of an Atlantic Canada tour, Rum Ragged, played in the Torngat Mountains and were unable to leave on time to make their other gigs in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. They held onto hope to make it home for their show at the 43rd Annual Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Festival.
The group took to their Facebook Page to apologize to fans and update them on their journey.
Day 10 of 4 here in The Torngats. It’s been foggier than The Cape Shore here and that is unfortunately too foggy to fly…

The group traveled by boat on Friday hoping to gain access to a way back to Newfoundland.
The Labrador community is not accessible by road, not only causing trouble for travel but also causing trouble in gaining access to food and supplies, says Joe Dicker, Mayor of Nain. Internet and long-distance calls were cut off from Saturday until Thursday evening, he says.
Rum Ragged will close up the Folk Festival at Bannerman Park in St. John’s at 10:45 p.m.
