The judge will return with a verdict in September in the extortion trial of 34-year-old Justin Jennings.
He’s accused in connection to an incident on Smithstone Crescent in Mount Pearl in May.
The complainant – a husband and father of four – says his son answered a knock at the door about 5:30 p.m. on May 27, to a man covered in tattoos that he didn’t know. It was Justin Jennings.
Jennings told the man he owed $37,000 to a third party, a debt Jennings was there to collect before “things got worse.”
Thirteen video clips of the exchange between Jennings and the complainant were captured using an in-home security camera.
The Defence argued the video evidence should be tossed out, pointing out there were gaps between the clips – but today the Judge disagreed, allowing the evidence be submitted.
Court resumes September 11 when it’s expected the judge will return with a verdict.
