Heavy rain has caused a major ripple in the downtown traffic scene Saturday afternoon.
Prescott Street, between Duckworth and Gower Street closed for the foreseeable future after a sinkhole opened in the pavement.

The road surface was compromised for a distance of roughly fifty metres.
Personnel from the City of St. John’s responded to assess the damage.
Motorists were urged to take an alternate route in and out of downtown.
