There has been some rain today and maybe a few showers tonight but everything is a go at the 43rd Annual Folk Festival.
The festival kicked off at Bannerman Park in St. John’s Friday night.
Rain poured from the heavens, but that didn’t stop the die-hard fans from coming out to open up the festival with their rubber boots, ponchos and umbrellas in tow.
Anna Brophy, President of the Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Arts Society, says the rain did not put a damper on opening night.
She says people show up regardless, they just throw on their coat and ejoy it.Performances include a variety of dance, story and song.
The opening ceremonies started at 6:30 p.m. with the Wape’k Muin Drum Group and The Ode to Newfoundland being sung by 14-year-old Songstress Abigale, who hails from Hodge’s Cove.

Meanwhile, one of the bands to be featured at the festival was having travel troubles.
The headliners for Sunday night, Rum Ragged, were stuck in Labrador and having a hard time getting to the gig.
Anna Brophy, President of the Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Arts Society, says fog left the band stuck in the Torngat Mountains. They have since returned home.
