FISH-NL has officially launched its second membership drive.
The union is hoping to represent inshore harvesters after its first attempt at certification failed.
President Ryan Cleary says they’re looking to sign at least 4,000 members by November 8th to sign membership cards.
Once that is done, and is verified by the Labour Relations Board, a vote can go ahead to determine which union inshore harvesters want to represent them.
Meanwhile, Cleary is calling an FFAW rally in Old Perlican this morning and a free fish giveaway on the waterfront in St. John’s a publicity stunt to take attention away from their membership drive.
He calls it “absolutely ridiculous” and says any inshore harvester can see through it.
Cleary says he’s not sure what message the FFAW is sending in giving fish away when the price is so low.
